Nicest Port-o-Potty EVER!

On Saturday night we played in Pomona for our friend Marco’s moving out party. We showed up to see four portable toilets. The water in the house had already been turned off (moving out party). Most people would just tell you to pee in the backyard or poop at the gas station. But not Marco. Not only was Marco a nice enough host to give the whole party four toilets to abuse, he must have put some research into it or has port-o-potty experience or something, because these were in fact, the best port-o-john’s known to man. Seriously… As soon as you stepped into the thing, a light and fan turned on. It was sweet smelling, like lavender or whatever complete freshness smells like. The light is controlled by a sensor in the floor… as soon as you leave (or step off the floor of the shitter) it turns off. It had instructions in three or four languages, it even let ya know that the water from the faucet in the sink was NOT ok to drink, in case you weren’t aware.

We’ll see if the port-o-potties at Furlough Fest live up to these top shelf shitters.

FURLOUGH FEST!

Ryan & I will be camping for the next three days at FURLOUGH FEST, a FREE music & art festival at Cal State Fullerton. It’s free. Casket Salesmen plays tonight (Tuesday) at 8pm @ Becker Amphitheatre, before or after or during Auditory Aphasia. We’re not sure yet. That’s the cool thing about this fest. Not only is it free, its very loosely scheduled and put together by a lot of different people… It’s kinda like do whatever you wanna do… everybody… just show up and do something. I mean, there is a set schedule of some bands playing. But, its very open to anyone that wants to do something. Which will probably be cool. We’ll see. There might be a few things going on that probably shouldn’t… but its all for a good cause. It’s all in resistance to the statewide CSU budget cuts. It’s free, starts at noon and if you want to camp, just bring some stuff (tent, sleeping bag, food, etc) and camp. The fest starts Tuesday and ends Thursday. It’s free….seriously, just show up whenever. Day or Night… come in the middle of the night, we’ll be there… probably grilling something.

Bill Murray

I love Bill Murray. He’s one of my all time favorite actors, but more importantly he just seems like a cool guy. Seriously. How cool is Bill Murray? Pretty fucking cool.

I went to a party last night and in the bathroom were tons of pictures on the wall. A whole collage of little framed photos. Right near the light switch was a 4 up of Bill Murray, four little portraits. This may sound weird to you, Bill Murray staring at you while you pee… But, I didn’t feel weird at all. If I got to see those four little pictures every new day, each showing a different emotion that you can’t help but giggle at as you pee, I think I would be filled with a level of optimism & joy that I don’t get to feel on an everyday basis. Especially first thing in the morning.

Casket Salesmen recently performed at the 2nd Annual Longhair Illuminati Art & Music Festival in Los Angeles, CA alongside Tweakbird, Warpaint, Jel, Odd Nosdam, Voices Voices, Living Suns, and more. Check out some new jams performed by Ryan and I, with our good buddy John Paul Trotter sitting in with us.

Nate and Nicole didn’t perform with us that night. But, that doesn’t mean they won’t perform with us in the future. Nate will more than likely be a big part of the next record, but will not be touring with us for a while. He’s doing other stuff. Nate stuff. But, he will return to the band soon enough. Fingers crossed.

We will be playing at this years Furlough Fest @ Cal State Fullerton’s Becker Amphitheatre on October 20, 2009 w/ Auditory Aphasia, Audacity, Blue Jungle, Pizza Party, and more. There’s going to be workshops on masturbation, people camping everywhere, and lots of artsy stuff to do and see. Oh, and it’s FREE!

new songs & a show…

Hello to you dear friend,

I’m coming to you this morning after yet another night spent, not sleeping, but writing. Over the last few months I have been very busy working on a new project that I’m calling Välmart. Say it with a German or Austrian accent, feels good, right? Yes, I know. My buddies Nico and Ben are doing it with me and we’re slowly but surely piecing together four or five pieces of music that will eventually become songs that we hope to extend and fuck with live…

It’s been almost a year since Casket Salesmen has been active (I called it a hibernation, not a hiatus). But, we recently got together at the new studio in Chinatown and started working on new tunes, sorta. If you haven’t been keeping tabs we moved out of the Longhair Illuminati / Solunaris HQ in Corona, CA a little under a year ago. I relocated to Los Angeles, Nate and Ryan are still stuck in the IE… It’s taken us about 8 months to get into a new space, but we’re there, maaan.

At first Välmart was just using the space, but now I am happy to announce that my weeks are spent splitting time between Casket Salesmen and Välmart writing/jam sessions. We record everything we jam so we are taking notes and putting stuff together and these jams are slowly becoming ideas which might become songs soon.

I guess the only other thing of importance to announce is that Casket Salesmen will be doing a show (most likely our only show of 2009) on Sunday, September 27 @ Knitting Factory in Los Angeles as part of The Second Annual Longhair Illuminati Art & Music Festival. This will also be one of the last shows ever at Knitting Factory…well, the Knitting Factory as we know it today… I guess they are moving out of the Disneyland/Time Square section of Hollywood (ugh, I hate it down there)…

Not sure if we’re gonna do any old songs, but I’m pretty sure we will bum like 2 people out if we don’t so we probably will… But no promises, k? Word.
